Center of Policy and Economics of the Public Sector Studies

The Center of Policy and Economics of the Public Sector Studies (CEPESP in Portuguese) seeks to coordinate the research related to the Public Sector at the Administration and Economics Schools of the Getulio Vargas Foundation in São Paulo.

The center was created in the second semester of 2004 as a response to the lack of studies related to the public sector based on concepts and methods derived from the Economic and Political Sciences. Along these lines, the mission of the center is to stimulate the use of these concepts and methods in the analysis of the public sector.

For such, the center will offer Masters and Doctorate programs in Public Policy and Government and conduct research related to this specific theme attempting to get other researchers involved in this area of study.

Research has been funded by financing institutions such as Fapesp (The State of São Paulo Research Foundation) and GV Pesquisa (GV Research), by public bodies such as the Secretary of Transportation and/or the Municipal Company of Urbanism (EMURB in Portuguese), and by international institutions such as the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank (BID).

The research conducted at the center addresses specific questions of funding institutions that are in the line with the CEPESP’s agenda. The interaction with public institution is crucial for the mediation between the research and the political agenda.
